Putting authority where the information is
As many businesses wrestle with inevitable culture change and digital transformation initiatives that are now needed to survive in our ever ambiguous, turbulent and increasingly fast paced environments, how do we ensure that the way we coach and empower individuals reflects and re-enforces the businesses we want to become and not the businesses we were?
The inextricable link between how we organise ourselves, the change methodologies and ways of working we use and equally the way we coach is ever more apparent. As businesses go through change the need for increased control of outcomes and specific delivery effectively seeks to disempower people if not managed correctly. Equally changing the landscape of what people do and how they do it within businesses inherently separates people from what they have come to value as their skills and abilities. Using coaching correctly to help people both consume but also empower others through change, whilst helping populations find new value in what they are going to do as opposed to what they have done is key.

The Leader as Coach
I believe that most of the success that I have had in my career is attributable to building strong leadership teams through coaching. Hopefully, I can convey some of that philosophy and approach in this session.
Specifically, I will share what I have learnt about coaching from my experiences of playing rugby at a high level and how I have applied that in my leadership style in the working environment.
There are a number of models that I have found most valuable in coaching others. I share some of the most powerful models that I use and the impact that they have had on the teams I’ve worked with.

The Power of Feeling Safe
There’s a paradox about organizational flourishing in a VUCA world. When things are Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous it’s unlikely that leaders will experience their operating environment as particularly safe. Ironically, research shows that psychological safety is the very thing that enables others to access higher brain structures that lead to market breakthroughs. This session will explore the neurophysiology of psychological safety and how mindfulness can deepen it in coaching for higher levels of innovation and growth. It will also explore the role mindfulness can play in the vertical development of leaders capable of transforming the organizations they lead.

The Six Key Dimensions of Leadership Agility For Today’s Workplace
Current research on transformational leadership points to the emergence of a paradigm shift in what is considered "effective" leadership. The authoritative "alpha" traits focused on charisma, hierarchical position, or expert power are no longer the only game in town. The arrival in the C-suite of the "beta leader" is upending the traditional meme about what it means to lead. With the explosion of diversity and the acceleration towards virtual, networked organizations, the "new generation" of leaders must develop the agility to succeed in dynamic, fluid environments, to know their strengths and continuously look to expand the spectrum of their capabilities along six science-backed dimensions of leadership.

The DNA of VUCA: Coaching leaders to deal with chaos, complexity, and exponential change
Few of today’s leaders are prepared to deal with the escalating levels of complexity, change and disruption they face, often referred to as Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity or VUCA. David’s session outlines how coaches can help leaders succeed and even thrive in VUCA by cultivating the right capabilities and mindsets through increased exposure, under the right conditions, to Diversity, Novelty, and Adversity. David shows how such experiences, supplemented by thoughtful reflection, increase leadership agility and generate more effective decision-making.

Nothing Best Done Alone Anymore
“Nothing is best done alone anymore” – no one leader can make all the tough calls on their own anymore. Our world was until recently more joined up and interdependent than it has ever been before. Information spreads at digital speed and no economy is immune or unaffected by the force, velocity, or impact when seemingly well-informed decisions turn out to be dramatically mistaken. Every leader requires the support of a diverse and high performing team and a culture that enables ‘every voice to be heard’.
