Session Summary:
In this session, Clinical and Corporate Psychologist Dr Martyn Newman provides 5 key psychological insights that integrate the science of human potential with emotional Intelligence and mindfulness to help coaches support leaders through crisis.
Challenging social crises and economic recessions have been studied for decades and the science shows that economic downturns are associated not only with a loss of productivity, but also with increased psychological distress and negative mental health outcomes. Employers and business leaders have both a responsibility and an opportunity to protect the mental health and wellbeing of their employees and lead them through this current crisis.
In this session, Clinical and Corporate Psychologist Dr Martyn Newman provides the psychological insights coaches needed to help leaders support the emotional wellbeing of their employees and maintain positive focus and productivity. He will explain the top three Emotional Intelligence competencies that leaders not only need to display themselves, but also develop in their employees.
Participants will explore the building blocks of crucial emotional intelligence competencies and take away key practical strategies to develop these skills in themselves and others. Dr Newman will also explain the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness and explore two powerful coping strategies for reducing stress and calming the mind.

Martyn Newman PhD is a clinical psychologist specializing in Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness. He is the author of the best-selling book, Emotional Capitalists and more recently, The Mindfulness Book and coauthor of the Emotional Capital Report™(ECR) – the global benchmark for measuring EQ and leadership
Performance – and the Emotional Intelligence Sports Inventory (ESi) – the world’s first psychological inventory to measure how EQ supports elite sports performance.
Martyn received his PhD from the University of Sydney and holds an MA from GTU at the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Psychology from Monash, University Melbourne, and a Doctor of Psychology from La Trobe University, Melbourne. He has held academic posts as Senior Lecturer at the University of East London and the School of Psychology at ACU National. He is also an Instructor in Mindfulness on the MBA program, Sydney University.
